Program Overview

The Integrated Cow Program is our livestock distribution initiative that provides cows to vulnerable families to improve nutrition, generate income through milk sales, and enhance agricultural productivity through manure. This program has transformed the lives of many households in our coverage area.

Program Objectives

  • Improve household nutrition through milk consumption
  • Generate sustainable income through milk sales
  • Enhance agricultural productivity through organic manure
  • Provide asset building for vulnerable families
  • Promote sustainable livestock management practices
  • Create a pass-on mechanism to benefit more families

How It Works

Selection Process

We carefully select beneficiary families based on vulnerability criteria including poverty level, family size, and ability to care for the animals. Priority is given to widows, persons with disabilities, and families with many dependents.

Training

Before receiving cows, beneficiaries undergo comprehensive training in animal husbandry, feeding, health care, and general livestock management. This ensures they have the knowledge to properly care for the animals.

Distribution

Healthy, productive cows are distributed to trained beneficiaries. Each family receives a cow along with initial support for housing and feeding.

Pass-on Mechanism

Beneficiaries agree to pass on the first female calf to another vulnerable family, creating a sustainable cycle of giving that benefits more community members over time.

Ongoing Support

Our veterinary officers provide regular check-ups, technical support, and training to ensure the animals remain healthy and productive.

Benefits to Families

Nutrition

Families consume milk, improving their nutritional status, especially for children and the elderly.

Income

Surplus milk is sold, providing regular income for household needs and investments.

Agriculture

Manure from cows improves soil fertility, increasing crop yields and reducing fertilizer costs.

Asset Building

The cow is a valuable asset that can be sold or used as collateral in times of need.

Success Stories

Many families have transformed their lives through this program:

  • Widows now generate regular income from milk sales
  • Children have better nutrition and attend school regularly
  • Agricultural productivity has increased significantly
  • Families have diversified their income sources
  • The pass-on mechanism has benefited hundreds of additional families

Challenges and Solutions

Disease Management

We provide regular veterinary services and training on disease prevention to keep animals healthy.

Feed and Fodder

We train beneficiaries on sustainable fodder production and storage to ensure year-round feed availability.

Market Access

We help beneficiaries access milk markets and fair prices for their products.
